What is Remove Annotations?
Remove Annotations strips all annotations from a PDF's pages. Annotations include highlights, underlines, text notes, stamps, ink drawings, and any other markup added on top of the page content. After removal, the pages contain only their original content — text, images, and vector graphics.
The tool uses pdf-lib to access each page's annotation array and remove the entries. The underlying page content stream is not modified, so text, images, and formatting are preserved exactly.
How to Use Remove Annotations
- Upload a PDF by dropping it onto the upload zone.
- Click Remove Annotations. The tool scans every page and strips all annotation objects.
- Download the result as
annotations-removed.pdf. Verify in a PDF reader that highlights, notes, and stamps are gone.
Why Use Remove Annotations?
PDFs accumulate annotations over their lifecycle — reviewer comments, highlight marks, approval stamps. Before sharing a document externally, removing these annotations ensures the recipient sees only the clean content. It is also useful for resetting a document that was marked up during an internal review cycle.
Privacy is another driver. Annotations sometimes contain internal notes, reviewer names, or draft comments that were never intended for external eyes. Stripping them before distribution prevents accidental disclosure.

Does this remove form fields?
No. Form fields are a separate layer from annotations. Use the Flatten Tool or the Form Field tools to manage interactive form elements.
Can I remove only certain types of annotations?
The current version removes all annotations. To selectively remove specific types, you would need to use a PDF editor that supports annotation-level filtering.
