What is Overlay PDF?
Overlay PDF renders each page of a secondary PDF as a PNG image at 2x resolution, then draws that image on top of the corresponding page in the primary PDF with adjustable opacity. The result is a layered document where the overlay appears as a semi-transparent layer on top of the original content.
How to Use Overlay PDF
- Upload the primary PDF file.
- Upload the overlay PDF file.
- Set the overlay opacity (default is 0.3 for 30% opacity).
- Click Overlay. The tool renders each overlay page and composites it onto the primary.
- Download the result as
overlaid.pdf.
Why Use Overlay PDF?
Overlays are useful for adding watermarks, stamps, backgrounds, or comparative layers to a document. Common use cases include superimposing a draft watermark, adding a letterhead background, or comparing two versions of a document visually by layering them at reduced opacity.
Privacy & Security
Your files never leave your browser. The overlay rendering happens entirely on your device using browser canvas. Nothing is uploaded to Racira's servers, no copies are stored in the cloud, and no file data is transmitted at any point.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if the PDFs have different page counts?
If the overlay PDF has fewer pages than the primary, the last overlay page is repeated for the remaining primary pages. If it has more pages, extra overlay pages are ignored.
