What is Metadata Editor?
Metadata Editor lets you change the title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer fields embedded in a PDF's metadata dictionary. These fields are part of the document's XMP or Info dictionary and are displayed by PDF readers in their properties panel.
The tool reads the existing metadata, lets you overwrite specific fields, and writes a new PDF with the updated metadata. Fields you leave blank are not changed. The visual content of the document is completely unaffected.
How to Use Metadata Editor
- Upload a PDF by dropping it onto the upload zone.
- Fill in the fields you want to change: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords (comma-separated). Leave any field blank to keep its current value.
- Click Process. The tool updates the metadata and writes a new PDF.
- Download the result. Open it in any PDF reader and check the properties panel to verify the changes.
Why Use Metadata Editor?
Clean metadata matters for document management. Files exported from different applications often carry incorrect or missing metadata — a PDF exported from a design tool might have the designer's name as author instead of the actual document author. Legal filings require specific title and subject fields. Archive systems use keywords for indexing.
Metadata is also a privacy concern. PDFs often carry the original author's name, creation software, and file path. Stripping or correcting this information before sharing prevents accidental disclosure of internal details.
