What is PDF Page Cropper?

PDF Page Cropper trims the visible area of every page in a PDF by removing content outside specified margins. You define how many points to cut from each edge — top, right, bottom, and left — and the tool crops every page to those dimensions.

The tool uses pdf-lib to set each page's crop box, which defines the visible region without altering the underlying content. Pages retain their original media box (full content area), but readers display only the cropped region. The default margins are 50 points on every side.

Cropping is non-destructive — the content outside the crop box still exists in the PDF's internal structure. Readers simply don't display it. For true content removal (where the data is stripped from the file), use the Redact tool instead.

How to Use PDF Page Cropper

1. Drop a PDF file onto the upload zone, or click to browse and select it. The tool accepts any standard PDF regardless of page count.
2. Set the crop margins for each edge: top, right, bottom, and left. The default is 50 points on every side. Values are in points (72 points = 1 inch). Each margin specifies how much to trim from that edge — a top margin of 100 removes the top 100 points (about 1.39 inches) from every page.
3. The tool applies the same margins to every page. For mixed-size documents, the margins are relative to each page's own dimensions, so a 50-point margin on a letter page and an A4 page removes the same absolute distance from each edge.
4. Click Crop Pages. The tool iterates through every page, calculates the new crop box coordinates based on your margins, and sets the visible region.
5. A download button appears with your file, named cropped.pdf. The file size may decrease slightly since readers skip rendering the cropped content, but the raw data remains in the file.

Why Use PDF Page Cropper?

Scanned documents often include black borders, scanner edges, or stray marks around the page content. Cropping removes those distractions, producing a cleaner file that displays and prints more professionally. This is especially common with batch scans where the scanner lid didn't fully cover the page.

Does cropping delete the content outside the margins?

Visually, yes — cropped content is hidden from view. Technically, the content remains in the PDF's media box and could be recovered with a PDF editor. For true removal where the data is actually stripped from the file, use the Redact tool instead.

Can I crop different pages by different amounts?

Not in a single operation. The tool applies the same crop margins to every page. For per-page cropping, split the document using the Split tool, crop each part separately, and recombine with Merge.

What unit are the margins in?

Points. There are 72 points per inch, so a crop margin of 72 removes one inch from each edge. A margin of 36 removes half an inch. For reference: a standard US Letter page is 612 × 792 points.

Will cropping change the page size?

The crop box changes what's visible, but the page's physical dimensions (the media box) remain the same. Some readers may display the cropped size as the page size, while others show the full dimensions. If you need the page dimensions to actually change, use the Fix Page Size tool after cropping.
