Audio Loop Maker
You Might Also Need
Audio Loop Maker cuts a clip down to a length that wraps onto itself cleanly, so playing it on repeat does not give away the join. It looks for the best cut point in the audio rather than asking you for one.
What is Audio Loop Maker?
Drop a file and the tool scans the later part of it for the cut whose boundary best matches the very beginning, trims there, and applies a few milliseconds of fade at the tail so the wrap is inaudible.
The two settings and the report:
- A search window from one to thirty seconds, defaulting to ten, which is how far back from the end the scan looks for a candidate cut.
- A seam fade from zero to thirty milliseconds, defaulting to five, applied to the end of the loop so the return to the head cannot click.
- A report after processing giving the loop length, the cut position and the total source duration.
The search is a two-sample boundary comparison. Every zero crossing inside the search range is examined, and for each one the difference between the samples at the cut and the first two samples of the file is calculated; the crossing with the smallest difference becomes the cut. Choosing a zero crossing matters because the waveform is passing through the middle of its range there, and choosing one whose following samples mirror the file's own opening means the wrap continues the waveform as though nothing had happened. The search window has a floor at the halfway point of the file, which prevents the tool from returning a loop so short it is useless — an early cut would leave only a fraction of the material. The seam fade then covers the remaining imperfection at the join. On steady or percussive material the result loops convincingly; on long evolving pads the underlying material may still change through the loop, which no cut can disguise. The reported figures are an honest summary of what happened: the loop length, the position of the cut in the source, and the duration the source began with. Because the cut is chosen by comparing the samples at a candidate boundary with the first two samples of the file, the loop wraps with the waveform in the same part of its cycle, and the seam fade covers whatever small difference remains.
What the tool cannot promise:
- It only looks in the later part of the file, so the ideal cut outside the search window is never considered.
- Looping cannot add material, so a clip that does not contain a natural period simply gets the closest match available.
- The output is shorter than the source, and the discarded tail is not recoverable from the result.
- No tempo or bar information is used, so the loop is not guaranteed to be a whole number of beats.
- The seam fade is applied to the tail only; there is no matching fade at the head.
- One channel is used to choose the cut, though every channel is trimmed at the same point so a stereo file stays aligned.
Use it for the cases it was built for: preparing a drum break or a phrase to repeat in a sampler, making a background bed that can run indefinitely, or turning a steady ambience into something that can be looped without a tell. When the pieces should be separate files rather than one loop, the slicer and the sample chopper divide instead, and when a transition between two different pieces is what is needed, the crossfade creator blends them.
How to use Audio Loop Maker
- Drop an audio file onto the panel; the duration appears once it decodes.
- Set the search window to cover the region where a good loop point might sit.
- Choose a seam fade of a few milliseconds, and raise it only if a click remains audible.
- Process, then play the result on repeat and listen for the join.
When to use Audio Loop Maker vs related tools
Audio Loop Maker is the tool when one file should wrap onto itself without an audible join. Sample Chopper and Audio Slicer divide a file into separate pieces instead of one seamless whole, and Crossfade Creator blends two different files across a transition. To shape the ends of a loop by hand rather than by search, Audio Fade In/Out gives direct control of both fades. When the repeatable extract is short and capped at a phone's length, Ringtone Maker is the same idea with that limit built in.
